Yahoo News Birmingham and Redditch Post Office branches at risk as 115 UK sites could close
A huge number of Post Office branches across the UK are at risk of closing permanently. The postal service is looking to offload 115 directly-owned Crown Post Offices within its 11,500 branch network.
The stores could be transferred to retail partners or postmasters - but they could also just be forced to shut. Crown Post Offices, meaning the branches still owned by the Post Office, are generally located in city and town centres.
A very well-used branch in Birmingham city centre has been earmarked for closure, according to The Mirror, along with another popular shop in Redditch. However, the Post Office, told BirminghamLive that "no announcement" had been made regarding any branch.
Birmingham and Redditch Post Office branches at risk
Birmingham's Post Office branch in Pinfold Street, just off Victoria Square, is reportedly at risk. The city centre shops has been in the city for decades.
Redditch's Post Office branch at Threadneedle House in Alcester Street is also reportedly at risk.
What has the Post Office said?
A spokesperson for the Post Office told BirminghamLive that "no announcement" had been made about "any branch". They said: "We are considering a range of options to reduce our central costs.
"This includes considering the future of our remaining directly managed branches, which are loss-making. We have long held a publicly-stated ambition to move to a fully franchised network and we are in dialogue with the unions about future options for the DMBs.”
