Birmingham train passenger attacked in robbery bid while buying ticket - as man 'keeps watch'

Police have launched a CCTV appeal after a train passenger was punched in an attempted robbery in Birmingham last month. The man was buying a ticket from a machine at the Chester Road station when he was attacked.

British Transport Police officers said two men tried to grab his bag as he used the ticket machine on the concourse. One of the men punched the victim in the face while the other kept watch from the top of the stairs.

It took place at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, August 21. Detectives have now shared images of men they believe could have information.

They urged anyone with information to get in touch. The appeal, shared on Friday, Sept 13, read: "Do you recognise these men? Detectives investigating an attempted robbery at Chester Road station have today released these images in connection.

"At around 9.30pm on Wednesday, August 21 two men attempted to grab the victim’s bag as he was using the ticket machine on the concourse. One of the men punched the victim in the face while another kept watch at the top of the stairs to the concourse.

"Detectives believe the men in the images may have information that could help with their investigation. Anyone who recognises them is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 833 of 21 August. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
