Birthday party guests tackled a murder suspect and sat on him until police arrived following a fatal stabbing near a bouncy castle.

A 40-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 29-year-old man three times near the grounds of Old Edmontonians FC in Edmonton, north London, on Saturday.

Witnesses said the wounded man called for help and collapsed after rushing towards a group of people, including children, celebrating a 30th birthday at the football club at 8pm.

Bystanders performed CPR while others restrained and sat on the suspect until police arrived.

A bystander, who asked not to be identified, said: "A woman from the bouncy castle was giving [the victim] chest compressions.

"The victim must have come over to us because he saw safety in numbers. He was on the floor then I saw him."

The witness said the alleged killer was "waving his arms" and "goading" guests until they grabbed hold of him at the scene.

He added: "He didn't run, he just stood still. They somehow got him on the floor and sat on him until police came."

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to the incident at 8.10pm and found a man with stab wounds.

DCI Paul Considine said: “A man was fatally stabbed following an altercation. Members of the public pursued and detained a male suspect. He was subsequently arrested by police.
