We’ve got to that part of the year where the nights are drawing in and temperate drop, and that mean only one thing in the shopping world – no, not Christmas, but Black Friday.

The pre-Christmas sales are probably the best of the year where the high street and websites slash prices on everything from fashion, tech, furniture and homewares.

The event began as just the first Friday after Thanksgiving, but it’s increased in length and now lasts much longer than that, with some retailers beginning some deals as early as October. But the main event usually starts the week before Black Friday and runs to the following Monday, known as Cyber Monday.

It’s not only the length of time that increases, the amount of retailers joining in also expands year on year, but some of the best retailers who consistently offer huge discounts include John Lewis & Partners, Argos and Currys.

As soon as the deals are released, we'll be on the hunt for the best offers and featuring them here, so be sure to check back in to see them.

Our IndyBest team has hand-picked every deal featured here. We may earn some commission from the links in this article, but our selections have been made independently and without bias. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

Argos

One of the best places to visit if you’re looking for discounts on a variety of goods, Argos has offers on everything from televisions to laptops and kids’ toys.

You can sign up the its emailing list to get the news on deals first, and visit its Black Friday page here, where you can also see its current offers.

If you’re looking to buy big ticket items, or lots of cheaper ones, you have the option of signing up for an Argos card, which has credit plans ranging from three to 12 months.

Currys

Currys will be discounting games consoles like the Xbox One X, Nintendo Switch and PS4 Pro. If you’re worried about price differences between retailers, Currys is a wise choice thanks to its Price Match Promise. Last year it matched the prices of high street retailers like John Lewis & Partners, Argos and even Amazon.

You can create a personalised Black Friday Wish List on Currys' website where you’ll be able to keep an eye on your most wanted tech products throughout the whole sale period.

John Lewis & Partners

If you’re on the hunt for great deals on tech products, then John Lewis & Partners is well worth a look, and don't forget to bookmark its Black Friday page.

From laptops and speakers to televisions and kitchen gadgets from a wide range of loved and trusted brands, the high street retailer has confirmed that it will have a wide variety of discounts for you to enjoy this year.

What makes John Lewis & Partners one of the best places to shop this Black Friday is its commitment to being Never Knowingly Undersold.

This means that it continually checks and compares its prices against high street competitors' prices every day, even during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

As well as technology, the retailer has also revealed that it will have discounts on home and fashion.

When is Black Friday?

As the sale falls on November 29 this year, there's less than a month for shoppers to find deals before Christmas.

But Black Friday deals – on the high street and online – begin long before the actual day, from anywhere between the week before to as early as mid October. Last year, Amazon's Black Friday sale ran for ten days.
