Things got rather awkward for the cast of Black-ish at last night's (January 15) NAACP Image Awards after an on-stage blunder.

The ABC sitcom was given the Outstanding Comedy Series accolade at the ceremony – which honours the work of people of colour in entertainment and literature.

However, as star Jenifer Lewis accepted the award with the cast on stage, she dropped the trophy, much to the shock of everyone else.

"Just like my real mother, can't take her nowhere!" cast member and on-screen son Anthony Anderson joked afterwards.

Yikes. Still, it wasn't all bad as Black-ish was one of the big winners of the night, taking home numerous awards including Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for Anderson and Outstanding Actress for Tracee Ellis Ross.

Another big winner of the night was A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay, who was awarded the Entertainer of the Year accolade. She is in pretty good company, as previous winners include Dwayne Johnson and Taraji P Henson.

Power took home a few awards too, bagging Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for Omari Hardwick.

Get Out won Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Daniel Kaluuya, as well as awards for directing and writing for Jordan Peele, while Outstanding Motion Picture went to breakout comedy Girls Trip.
