It's been almost eight years since Prime Minister Michael Callow got intimate with a pig and in the intervening period, Black Mirror has changed platforms, put out several series and two specials, including Netflix's first major interactive film.

But what does the future look like for the terrifying tech-based anthology series?

Three new episodes will drop on Netflix on June 5, with series creator Charlie Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones telling Digital Spy that they're keen to keep experimenting with new formats and storytelling structures.

"I think 'Bandersnatch' has proven it can exist as a single film," said Jones. "I like that idea, doing one.

"It's interesting for us, and hopefully for viewers, to find other ways... other forms of storytelling in which to dramatise things, if they're earned."

Brooker added: "Black Mirror is a flavour, and a tone. We have some, fairly wobbly, internal rules about what it is and isn't right for a Black Mirror episode that we never really articulate out loud, but it does feel pretty flexible.

"So I don't think there's anything to stop us... we could do one-offs, we could do an ongoing story, we could do spin-offs."

One twist on the show's format that Brooker did apparently rule out is any kind of live Black Mirror interactive experience.

"That's the news!" he laughed. "It's happening outside right now!"

He's got a point.

Black Mirror season 5 comes to Netflix on June 5.
