Note: Contains MAJOR spoilers for Black Summer.

Netflix's post-apocalyptic series Black Summer hit our screens back in April, but with the threat from the undead far from over at the end of the first season, we've got one very big question on our minds: will the show return for a second outing?

Here's everything you need to know.

Black Summer season 2 release date: When will it air?

As for when you'll be able to watch it, it's currently a waiting game.

Shooting is set to kick off next year in Alberta, Canada.

Black Summer season 2 cast: Who's returning?

Jaime King will be back as Rose, as well as reprising her role as executive producer.

Justin Chu Cary will return as Spears, and Christine Lee as Kyungsun.

John Hyams will also be back onboard as sole showrunner – he created the show with Karl Schaefer – but it looks like Hyams is flying solo this time around.

Those are the only names that have been confirmed at the moment. Watch this space for updates.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, Sal Velez Jr suggested that William could also be back.

"I can say this, just like Jon Snow had his revival and comeback, I think that since they really don't show the death of William... I'm going to leave it to the audience's imagination to see what happens in the next season," he said.

"I know a lot of people would want to see William but I don't write or create it and I'm not even allowed to say whether I did [die] or not."

Black Summer season 2: Is it really a Z Nation prequel?

During an interview with Screen Rant, King made it clear that the Netflix series isn't connected to Syfy's Z Nation, which was cancelled last year after five seasons.

"It's interesting because people started tying [Black Summer] to Z Nation and I'm like this has nothing to do with that. It's not a link," she said.

"I had never actually seen Z Nation or heard about Z Nation, but I have friends who absolutely love that show, and then people started putting it out there that it was like a prequel of Z-Nation, which it's not... And really there is no relationship, but the relationship is it came from the people that were involved with Z Nation."

Black Summer co-creator Schaefer was also behind Z Nation, and both shows were produced by The Asylum.

Hyams also directed several episodes of Z Nation.

She also emphasised that "it's so much deeper" than "a straight-up zombie genre show".

"It's really a refugee story. It's a story of a country and a sickness, and the sickness really has all this symbolism in it," she continued. "This sickness that people are getting is symbolic of the hatred and the division in our country. And nobody is immune, no matter how deeply you love, no matter who you are.

"[It's] a story about what happens in a country where the government falls apart and where the fabric of society is being torn apart, right?

"If you want to see the meaning and the drama and the truth, it's there."

Black Summer season 2 plot: What will happen?

Jaime King has already hinted at what fans can expect if season two is confirmed.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, she said:"What I can tease is that whatever you think is gonna happen, will not happen. It will always keep you on your toes.

"[It] really comes back to like very real human traits. Like, is the person egotistical? Do they have some kind of ulterior motive? What is in each character's base psychology?

"That's what's so cool about it, is that it really becomes metaphorical to what life is like. Every time I read the script, I just never expected to read what I was going to read."

Black Summer season 2 trailer: When can I watch it?

The trailer will probably land in the month leading up to the premiere.

We'll pop it right here for your viewing pleasure when it does arrive.
