Blackwall Tunnel closes as fire crews called to ‘reports of smoke’
The Blackwall Tunnel closed this afternoon following reports of smoke.
London Fire Brigade attended the scene today (Saturday, September 23) at 12.50pm.
Closures were put in place as a precaution, however, following an investigation crews have established that there was no fire.
There are “major delays” in both directions as a result of the incident.
We were called to the Blackwall Tunnel at 12.50pm due to a report of smoke. Closures have subsequently been in place as a precaution.
Following investigation, we’ve established there is no fire.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson tweeted: “We were called to the Blackwall Tunnel at 12.50pm due to a report of smoke.
“Closures have subsequently been in place as a precaution.
“Following investigation, we’ve established there is no fire.
“There are major delays in both directions which could take some time to clear.”
