Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve has responded to the rumours he's wanted as director for James Bond 25, saying it "would be a treat" to helm the film.

Earlier in the year Villeneuve was one of three directors that were said to be considered for the next 007 outing, and Daniel Craig has given his backing.

Villeneuve said he doesn't bother listening to rumours, but confirmed he's been in touch with the star about the job.

"Daniel Craig is a very inspiring actor and I had some contact and the thing is that I'm busy right now doing Dune,"he told The Playlist.

"But I will say, to have the privilege to work with him, it would be a dream. I would love to work with Daniel and a Bond movie for me would be a treat. It's a matter of timing, I guess."

Timing does look like a problem as he's got a pretty packed schedule coming up.

Villeneuve was confirmed as the director of the Dune reboot earlier this year and only last month, he was reported to be in talks for Sony's long-gestating Cleopatra movie based on Stacy Schiff's book Cleopatra: A Life.

And then there's also the possibility of him being wanted for a third Blade Runner movie.

So let's just hope he spies a gap in that really busy diary of his.
