Motorists are advised expect some delays on Tyneside as the Blaydon Race gets underway this Sunday, June 9, with road closures set to be put in place to make way for runners.

Thousands of runners will be taking part in the iconic annual race, which starts from Newcastle's Quayside and finishes in Blaydon. This year, the run will be routed via Swirle, Quayside, The Close, Skinnerburn Road, Monarch Road, William Armstrong Drive, Scotswood Road and Scotswood Bridge to Blaydon.

It is hoped that this will reduce traffic disruption in the city centre compared to previous years.
