The family-owned pub is located on Main Street in Torrance - just a few miles north of Glasgow - and is popular with both locals and day-trippers out for a walk in the Campsie Fells.

One eye-witness said: "There were flames in some of the upper windows. I just hope everybody got out safely."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 3.22pm on Tuesday, 9 July to reports of a fire at Main Street, Torrance.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene where crews are working to make the area safe.”

The main road through the village was closed and bus operator McColl's posted on Facebook: "Due to a fire at The Rambler, we are unable to serve Torrance at this time. Diversion will be Balmore Rd."
