Blaze Burns Inside Tree as Firefighters 'Optimistic' About Caldor Fire Containment

Firefighters in California said they were “cautiously optimistic" as containment efforts continued against the Caldor Fire burning south of Lake Tahoe.

Footage by Craig Philpott shows a tree burning from the inside on Highway 50 between Sierra Pines and Sierra Tahoe near Echo Summit.

By Monday, September 6, the fire was reported to have burned 215,400 acres and was 44 percent contained.

The Caldor Fire has destroyed more than 900 structures since it began, including homes, business and other buildings, Cal Fire said. More than 27,000 structures remained threatened. Credit: Craig Philpott via Storyful
