A blaze has broke out in Edinburgh city centre as police urge people to "avoid the area".

The Rose Street fire was first reported to the emergency services at around 3.34pm. The street was closed off to pedestrians on Castle Street and Frederick Street as several shops were told to close early, Edinburgh Live reports.

A tattoo parlour on Rose Street, Devil's Scribe, said there was no access to the street and they had been ordered to close early due to a fire 'in the building site across'. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed five appliances and one height appliance had been dispatched.
