On My Block season three spoilers follow
So, it's good news, the creators of On My Block have said that the show will have a fourth season and collectively, fans have breathed a deep sigh of relief.
One of the show's co-creators Lauren Iungerich recently signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix which bodes well for us super-fans.
She revealed recently to Variety: "I'm incredibly grateful to continue working with many talented creatives at Netflix to keep telling stories that resonate with audiences"
And resonate it did! One of the most relatable shows on Netflix left us with plenty of questions unanswered by the end of season three.
Monse and Cesar, a love lost or found?
In their final scene together, we saw Monse and Cesar embracing and promising each other that nothing would change and then… everything did?
For the season's favourite 'Will they won't they' power couple, the viewers need a definite answer (for closure purposes) as to if they did or didn't.
Although these two seemed to be drawn to each other through burning atomic fire, the flash-forward did not indicate a continuation of hearts and affection throughout their two years apart. What happened? Are they seeing other people?
Kendra, Kendra, Kendra
In other romantic situations, where is Kendra? The elusive, eccentric Kendra who was introduced as Jamal's love interest in the beginning of season three but quickly made her exit, that Kendra.
When we see Jamal hanging out with his new football friends at the end-of-season finale there is not a whiff of Kendra, despite the creators teasing us with a texting scene between the two that implied intimacy earlier in the episode.
We need a full character analysis.
Jasmine and Ruby are now a thing?
Jasmine and Ruby, how did their romance progress? From barely acquaintances in season one to lovers by the end of season three: we need to understand the trajectory.
Throughout season three we see Ruby grappling with his confusing feelings towards Jasmine and then in the flash-forward, they are going two years strong? Answers please.
The Curious Case of Spooky
And whatever happened to Oscar 'Spooky' Santos? Safe to say that season four will need to do a lot of back-tracking but with Spooky? Please let's start at the beginning.
Oscar had been gradually moving away from gang culture in season three and he vocalised how he wanted to live a "normal" life to Cesar in the final episode. Then in the flash-forward, we seen him with a full head of hair welcoming a pregnant woman into his arms.
In an On My Block Utopia, we would have flashbacks as well as -forwards detailing Oscar's rise to notoriety and then his segue into a BBQ-tongs-wielding suburban father-to-be.
Jamal and Ruby's bromance and the lack thereof…
All of the core had a seemingly unbreakable bond, but Jamal and Ruby had a distinct, special friendship. At the end of season three, we see Jamal and Ruby exchange a look, but not a word, that suggested something dark happened between them.
Polar opposites in many ways, these two couldn't stay mad at one another for longer than an episode or two and so we predict something seismic happened to shake their friendship at its core.
As viewers, we can accept all of these plot and sub-plot endings, but what we all love about On My Block is the way the show explores raw relationships and how these are relationships are tested over time. And so, it is simply not enough to say that Monse and Cesar are finite: we need the complex deep-dives that the show has gotten hooked on for the past three seasons in season four.
