Dubai makes history with winning bid to host World Expo 2020

The UAE beat three other countries bidding to host the global world fair, including Turkey, Russia and Brazil.

A high-profile delegation from the UAE including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of the Ruler’s Court of Dubai and Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State, is in Paris for the Bureau International des Exhibitions (BIE) General Assembly.

This will be the first time the event has been held in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia region in its 150-year history.

The expo will attract 25 million visitors from around the globe and will create at least 270,000 new jobs mainly in real estate and hospitality. Hosting the event will also further cement Dubai as a true global hub, establishing it as a leader in trade and tourism.

UAE DELEGATION

The Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 in Dubai will be present and additional attendees will be confirmed on the day:

  • Chairman of the Committee: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum,

  • President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group

  • Deputy Chairman of the Committee: His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of His Highness the Ruler’s Court of Dubai and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Corporation of Dubai

  • Managing Director of the Committee: Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State

  • His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority

  • His Excellency Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality

  • His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Chief Executive Officer of Dubai World Trade Centre

  • Major General Khamis Mutar Al Muzainah, Deputy Commander General of Dubai Police
