Blood Moon Crosses the Sky Over New York

Video posted to YouTube showed the first total lunar eclipse of the year crossing the sky over New York on the night of May 15-16.

Chris Melucci recorded the mesmerizing footage, showing the “blood moon” redden as it passes into Earth’s shadow.

The spectacle was observed in parts of the Americas, Europe and Africa and has been dubbed the “super flower blood moon”. The rare event gets its name from May’s full moon being known as the “flower moon” and the eclipse occurring with the moon closest to Earth, making it a super moon.
