Blood spillage causes road closure near major West Midlands hospital
A blood spillage has closed a road close to a major West Midlands hospital this afternoon, Friday October 18. Processed blood samples coming from Walsall's Manor Hospital were spilled on Alumwell Road, close to the junction of Moat Road.
Traffic was not able to access Alumwell Road at the junction of Moat Road, where the hospital is based. Hospital chiefs confirmed a clean-up operation was under way, but said the road had to be closed to traffic to allow it to continue.
They confirmed the road closure was temporary, and thanked the community for their patience. Patients bound for Manor Hospital will need to find alternative routes, and pedestrians walking past the scene were warned not to touch anything.

A spokesperson for Manor Hospital said: "Following a spillage earlier today, Alumwell Road at its junction with Moat Road in Walsall is currently closed to traffic to allow the clean-up operation to continue.
"The spillage involved processed blood samples from Walsall Manor Hospital and anyone walking through that area is advised not to touch anything they may see on the road or pavement or pick up any small pieces of plastic.
"We will advise when the clean-up has finished. Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and Walsall Council thank the community for its support at this time."
