Blue Peter's John Noakes Missing In Majorca

Former Blue Peter presenter John Noakes has been reported missing from his home in Majorca.

Police began searching for the 81-year-old after his concerned wife Vicky appealed for information which could lead to his whereabouts.

Officials in the town of Andratx, where the couple live, have also put an appeal on the town hall website with two photos.

It is thought Mr Noakes may have gone for a walk early this morning.

Ms Noakes is particularly worried for her husband's wellbeing as he suffers from Alzheimer's disease and today is the hottest day of the year on the island.

A former agent told Sky News that authorities would confirm his status as a missing person after six hours had elapsed, which would have been at around 3pm local time (2pm UK time).

He was wearing blue shorts and a blue and white top when he went missing.

An Andratx local police officer said: "We are searching for Mr Noakes in the village.

"His wife reported him missing this morning. She is worried because of his state of health and the heat, which is around 35C (95F) today."

Mr Noakes is best known for fronting the children's programme Blue Peter where he holds the record for the longest serving presenter.

His attempts to keep the show's excitable pet dog Shep under control led to his memorable catchphrase "Get down, Shep!"
