Boarded-Up Stores Seen in Sarasota as City Braces for Hurricane

Businesses boarded up their storefronts in Sarasota, on Florida’s Gulf Coast, as the state braced for the impact of Hurricane Ian, which was forecasted to make landfall on Wednesday, September 28.

The National Hurricane Center said Ian had developed into an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 hurricane on September 28. The National Weather Service warned of catastrophic flooding, life-threatening storm surge, and 155 mph winds in parts of Florida.

The City of Sarasota declared a local state of emergency in response to Hurricane Ian on September 26.
