Boat Nearly Capsizes During Rescue Mission as Storm Ciara Batters England

A rescue boat nearly capsized on a mission to save a surfer who was caught in rough waters brought on by Storm Ciara off the coast of Hastings, England, on February 9, local media reported.

Reports said a bystander called the rescue crew around 11.20 am when the surfer lost their board and was stranded in the stormy sea near Rock-a-Nore. The surfer was found about three hours later at nearby Rye Bay, according to local media reports citing officials.

This footage, filmed by Paul Hogg, shows a Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) boat nearly tipping over as it ventured through choppy waters to save the surfer. The rescue mission came amid “heavy rain and very strong winds” as Storm Ciara pummeled the United Kingdom and surrounding areas throughout the weekend.

“We’re happy to report that we’re all safe, well and uninjured and the boat is undamaged and safely berthed next to Eastbourne,” the RNLI of Hastings said. Credit: Paul Hogg via Storyful
