Joe Wicks broke down in tears as he was awarded an honorary doctorate for his health and fitness efforts during the COVID pandemic.

The fitness guru - aka the Body Coach - became a PE teacher to all the children off school during the lockdowns and he went on to raise more than a million for Children In Need with a gruelling 24-hour exercise marathon.

His work was recognised by London's St Mary's University this week and Wicks said he was "chuffed".

The 36-year-old posted images and videos on Instagram of him receiving the honour.

He told his fans: "Today I received the first Honorary Doctorate from @yourstmarys University.

"It was awarded for my contribution towards the health and fitness of the nation during the pandemic and for my charity work. I think the video at the end shows just how chuffed I am to be given this award."

"Thank you St Mary’s," he added.

In another post the star shared a photo of him in tears as he stood at a podium and delivered his acceptance speech.

"Going, going, gone," he said, adding a crying emoji to his message.

"Did a speech today. Didn’t plan it but knew I’d end up crying. Standard lol."

"Doctors cry too don’t they?" he quipped.

The latest honour comes after the fitness star was awarded an MBE at Windsor Castle earlier this year.
