Body found in car on busy road in search for missing man

A body has been found in a car in the search for a missing man.

Police made the discovery at around 1.30pm on Saturday, September 21 after locating the man's car on the eastbound carriageway of the A50 in Staffordshire.

It is believed the man had been reported missing 100 miles away from where the body was found. The death is not being treated as suspicious but the case has been referred to the police watchdog.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Officers searching for a missing man from Northamptonshire have sadly found his body in his car on the A50. The man’s car was located on the A50 eastbound in Creswell. Sadly, the man was deceased. His family have been informed.

"We are not treating the death as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM coroner. A referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."

The West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for a statement following the tragedy.
