Person dies on Dartmoor

A person has sadly died on Dartmoor this morning (Tuesday, June 11). Emergency search and rescue teams were called at 11.15am to assist Devon and Cornwall Police and the South Western Ambulance Service.

The tragic incident happened on the moor between Haytor and Black Hill. The cause of death is not known at this time.

Emergency crews retrieved the body and transported them to a land ambulance which was waiting at head car park. Search and Rescue crews left the scene around 12.10pm.

The full statement from Ashburton Search and Rescue said: "At 11:15 hrs the team were called out to assist Devon & Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust with the recovery of a deceased individual from a moorland location between Haytor and Black Hill.

"One of our 4*4 vehicles was utilised in bringing the individual to a land ambulance waiting at the road head car park. The team stood down at 12:08 hrs.

"7 of our volunteers were involved in this incident. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the individual."
