Body found in water in search for missing kayaker off Sussex coast

A body has been found in the search for a kayaker who went missing off the Sussex coast.  

Shane Davies, 33, got into difficulty while kayaking with a friend in the Pagham beach area near Bognor Regis.

He went missing at about 3.30pm on Saturday after becoming separated from his friend as they swam to shore. 

The coastguard and police then conducted an extensive search of the area.

A body was found on Sunday morning in the water and is believed to be Davies, Sussex Police said.

His next of kin have been told and the matter has been passed onto the Coroner’s Office.

Inspector Oliver Pullen said: "Our thoughts are with Shane's family at this incredibly difficult time.

"I'd like to thank Coastguard and other colleagues for their work to help find Shane."
