Body found in search for Aberdeen missing twins sisters as emergency crews race to River Dee

The family of Henrietta Huszti has been informed after a body was found in the River Dee after she vanished with her sister over three weeks ago.

Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, who are part of a set of triplets, went missing in Aberdeen on Tuesday, January 7. They were last seen on Market Street at Victoria Bridge over the River Dee at around 2.12am.

Police Scotland made the discovery in the early hours of this morning, Friday, January 31, at around 7:55am in the river east of Aberdeen Boat Club.

Officers confirmed that the search remains ongoing for her sister Eliza Huszti.

The Police Scotland Dive and Marine Unit and other specialist officers were spotted carrying out further searches of the river and the riverbanks between the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and Victoria Bridge.

The last recorded movements of the pair, originally from Hungary, saw them cross the bridge and turn right on to a footpath next the river heading towards Aberdeen Boat Club. Detectives later confirmed that the siblings, who were wearing rucksacks, were seen at the same bridge at around 2.50pm the previous day, Monday January 6.

A major hunt was launched in the north east, with extensive searches being carried out of the river, with a police helicopter and dog branch also used. Officers have said there is nothing to suggest any criminality or suspicious circumstances.

Their landlady raised the alarm due to concern about Eliza and Henrietta. Police confirmed she received a strange text message from Henrietta at 2.12am on January 7. At that point she was told that they would not be returning and then the phone was switched off. All of their possessions were found in the home.

Eliza and Henrietta's brother Joszef, revealed that the family were not aware of their decision to move out of their flat, despite he and his mother having spoken to them in the days and weeks prior to the disappearance. He added everything had seemed normal when they talked.

The two sisters arrived to the UK from Hungary six years ago and had been working in Aberdeen since then. Police have looked into their background but everything about it including their social life appeared to be perfectly normal.

Superintendent David Howieson said: "Our thoughts are with the Huszti family today. We are keeping them fully updated following this recovery and the further search activity which is ongoing.

"Our priority remains finding both of the sisters and search has focused on the River Dee and will do so in the coming days. Nothing from our extensive enquiries so far suggest either sister left the immediate area after they were last seen on Tuesday, 7 January. There is also nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances or criminality.

"We are carrying out further searches of the river in the area where the body was recovered this morning. The river in this area is tidal and conditions are challenging but we will continue to search and make every effort to locate both of the sisters.

"We have sought guidance from a number of experts and this will continue to inform our search activity.”
