Police have revealed that a road closure earlier today was due to the discovery of a man's body in a village lane. Leicestershire Police said it first received a call yesterday (Tuesday, November 19) afternoon reporting concerns about a man from Mountsorrel.

Inquiries led to the discovery of the man's body today (Wednesday, November 20) in the village of Thrussington. Seagrave Road, in Thrussington, which is a small village in the Wreake Valley between Leicester and Melton, was closed for about seven hours from around 6.15am today while police were at the scene.

Because of their involvement yesterday, the police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Such referrals are normal procedure when police are connected to a case in which a death occurs.

In a statement released this afternoon, the force said: "Police received a call yesterday afternoon regarding the concern for the welfare of a man from Mountsorrel.

"Following inquiries carried out, the male was found deceased by police in the Seagrave Road area this morning. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for HM coroner.

"Given recent police contact, in line with standard procedure, a mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC)."
