A Devon woman who had been reported missing to police was tragically found passed away in a reservoir where she enjoyed walking her dog. Glynis Pethick was found passed away on land at Morwellham Hydroelectric Power Station in Tavistock on September 12, 2024, the same day a high risk missing person search was launched.

An inquest into the 63-year-old's death recently opened at Exeter Coroner's Court. The short hearing heard Mrs Pethick was born in Coventry and lived in Tavistock.

Alison Longhorn, area coroner for Devon, said: "The circumstances are she was reported to police on September 12 as a high risk missing person. Initially her car was seen by her husband parked in a layby opposite a footpath leading to a South West Water reservoir.

"This location was often where she took her dog for a walk. Notes of concern where found by her husband when he returned home.

"The police were called and an area search around the reservoir was carried out. A police helicopter located her body in the water and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The precise medical cause of death is yet to be established."

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held on a later, yet to be confirmed date.
