Warning: Bodyguard finale spoilers follow.

Bodyguard's Ash Tandon sided with BBC Breakfast's Louise Minchin that Julia Montague could still be alive despite last night's gripping conclusion.

The finale saw Richard Madden's David Budd extract a confession from Crime lord Luke Aitkens (Matt Stokoe) over her murder, but Ash Tandon – who played DCI Deepak Sharma in the hit series – still isn't convinced that Keeley Hawes' Home Secretary is actually dead.

"We still don't really know, do we," the actor told the BBC show's hosts today when they asked whether he'd been briefed on if she's alive or dead.

"She could be [alive]... Jed [Mercurio] could know the answer."

Pushed on whether a second series is possible following its ratings success, he continued: "I can tell you there's a chance it could happen, and there's a chance we don't know... Jed has said prior to this that a lot goes into a second show.

"If there's a second series, I could be killed off in the first episode in the first minute!"

The star also teased an upcoming Corrie storyline as he revealed he will be returning as PC Daullah in the soap.

"I've just finished filming five episodes of Coronation Street, there's a dead body at the end of the month to investigate," he revealed. "I've been in it a few times so he's back again."

The ending of Bodyguard saw Aitkens confess as he was held at gunpoint by Budd: "It was business. It was nothing personal."

He'd found out that Julia, once she became Prime Minister, was planning to transfer greater powers to the security services, enabling them to quash the sort of criminal enterprises that made Aitkens his money.

Meanwhile, Line of Duty's Mercurio has disclosed there could be up to three more series of the show.

"It's probably fair to say we would probably approach any thoughts of a second series with the idea that it would create an opportunity for a third or fourth," Mercurio said.

"We do feel very privileged and fortunate that there's been such a response that it gives us that opportunity to at least think about doing more."
