Bodyguard writer Jed Mercurio admits he’s been lying about the finale- so what happens to Julia?
Bodyguard writer Jed Mercurio has admitted he has lied about the final episode of the hit BBC drama, meaning Julia Montague could be alive after all.
Mercurio, 52, revealed he has been savagely dropping misleading hints about how the show ends in a bid to make sure viewers are surprised.
“I don’t really feel a great responsibility to tell the truth, so it doesn’t really matter what I say,” he told The Sun.
“I tell the truth where it’s the ethical thing to do, but in terms of entertainment there’s a certain fun and a certain enjoyment that can be added to the experience by a few judicious lies.
Is she though? @Misskeeleyhawes - just riffing here - maybe people should watch #Bodyguard on Sunday night 9pm @BBCOne ... ? Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence. https://t.co/Mi41NIyZa3

“Yeah, I’ve lied before about Keeley [Hawes, who plays Julia] and it may well be I will lie again.”
Naturally the suspense is eating up fans of the show, with many declaring Mercurio a “tease”.
You and @jed_mercurio are such teases. Think we need a prediction bingo card for Sunday’s finale! Maybe Gene Hunt will turn up and point Julia M towards Nelson’s pub lol #bodyguard Curious #fridayfeeling

She could be alive?! Remember recently we had a Russian journalist fake his death and fooled people in real life! Art imitating life? #Bodyguard

One user wrote: “There’s been so many twists and turns in the series, really anything can happen. The feature length series finale this weekend will totally throw a curveball! #Bodyguard.”
Another added: “You and @jed_mercurio are such teases. Think we need a prediction bingo card for Sunday’s finale! Maybe Gene Hunt will turn up and point Julia M towards Nelson’s pub lol #bodyguard Curious #fridayfeeling.”
A third commented: “There better be a proper ending to #Bodyguard on Sunday - if it's left hanging I might actually commit a crime #newsnight.”
Montague appeared to have been killed in an explosion which ripped through an auditorium where she was giving a controversial speech in episode three.
Her bodyguard David Budd, played by Richard Madden, survived. It is unclear who planted the bomb, but many have questioned whether Budd was behind the attack or whether Montague is even dead.
Bodyguard finale airs Sunday, 9pm on BBC1
