Keeley Hawes has revealed that she is still being asked whether her Bodyguard character Julia Montague is alive.

The actress, who played the calculating home secretary in the hit BBC One series, recently admitted that fans to this day grill her about the possibility of Julia being alive - which some viewers did think was teased at the end of series one.

"Someone said it to me this morning," Keeley told The Guardian. "Total denial."

During the same exchange, she also hinted that her "total denial" of the Julia-is-alive theory may also be her "bluffing".

OK. Now we're definitely confused.

Bodyguard fans began speculating that Julia wasn't really dead during the first series, after she was reported to have been killed in a terrorist bomb.

For one, her body was never seen by her bodyguard David Budd (Richard Madden) nor viewers.

And, in the closing moments of the finale, some suspected that Julia may have survived the blast after a phantom figure was seen in a window.

Whether Julia is alive or dead and whether she will be back for a second series has yet to be determined; technically, a second series itself is also yet to be greenlit by the BBC - although Bodyguard star Richard Madden has confirmed he's "in talks" for another run.

Madden will also be back as David Budd will in a Red Nose Day sketch this spring.

Rejoice!

Bodyguard series one is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
