Bokman owners open reservations for second restaurant ahead of launch later this month
A new Korean restaurant in Redland is now taking reservations and will open later this month. The owners of Bokman in Kingsdown recently announced that they would open their second restaurant, Dongnae, on Chandos Road, a street known for its thriving dining scene.
The new restaurant takes its name from the Korean word Dongnae, meaning 'neighbourhood', which is a nod towards the relaxed atmosphere and sense of community owners Kyu Jeong Jeon and Duncan Robertson intend to create. The menu has been put together with different price points in mind, with a set lunch meal available for £24.
A number of affordable extras are also on the menu, including a raw aged beef sirloin with pine nuts and Korean pear for £8.50 and an octopus and chrysanthemum jeon, a type of fritter or pancake, for £7.50.

For adventurous diners, a 'discovery menu' has been put together, priced at £55 to showcase some of the chefs' favourite dishes, including pork belly and rice cake skewers, five-year doenjang stew and pork jowl, cheek and skin. The owners have also made an effort to source produce from local suppliers, with Ali from Rocketman Produce providing Korean leaves and herbs from a nearby allotment and Bristol-based importer Vine Trail taking centre stage on the low-intervention wine list.
Head Chef Clarence Fung has most recently been working as sous chef at Dovetale Restaurant by Tom Sellers in London and prior to this, worked with the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant Group. Managing the front of house as General Manager will be Rebecca Lewis, who joins from Michelin Green-starred Where The Light Gets In in Stockport.
Husband and wife duo Kyu and Duncan have been drawing a loyal following since they opened Bokman in 2019. The pair have worked in restaurants in the UK, US, France and South Korea, including various Michelin-star locations.
Last month, Bokman received a rave review from critic Jay Rayner, who said the restaurant was 'likely to put a smile on your face'.
Dongnae will open on Friday, September 27 and you can make a reservation here.
