Bomb squad deployed to village after hand grenade discovered

A bomb squad has been deployed to a small Yorkshire village after a hand grenade was discovered.

West Yorkshire Police were called at 3.51pm to a property on Hillside Close in Addingham, Ilkley. They were responding to reports of an old hand grenade being discovered during a property clear out in the village.

The emergency services rushed to the scene and a cordon has been put in place. A number of homes have also been evacuated as a precaution.

Army bomb disposal experts have also been called to the scene to deal with the grenade.

The police said: "At 3:51pm today (22/11), police received a report of an old hand grenade having been found during a clear out of a property on Hillside Close, Addingham, Ilkley.

"Emergency services have attended the scene and a cordon has been put in place. A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution while Army bomb disposal experts are awaited at the scene. "
