Sir Roger Moore's daughter has publicly opened up about the actor's death for the first time.

The James Bond icon passed away aged 89 in May earlier this year, following his second battle with cancer after initially beating the disease in 1993.

Appearing on ITV's Lorraine today (September 21), Deborah Moore told stand-in presenter Christine Lampard that her famous father wasn't ready to die.

She said: "It was such a shock. We never thought for one moment that he was not going to win the battle against cancer.

"He believed he was going to survive. That's why he spent [his final days] finishing off his book."

Deborah went on to reveal that she couldn't stop crying after reading Roger Moore: A Bientot for the first time two months after her father's death.

She explained that she was on a train after meeting with one of his dear friends at the time.

"I just couldn't stop [crying]," she continued. "He wrote in the book, 'Who knows what's in store when we go but right now, I'm not ready to find out'.

"He wasn't ready to go. I believe he was ready to see his 90s."

In the book, Sir Roger opens up about his childhood, his career, and the pros and cons of getting older.

"The last few pages talk about the worst part about getting older; losing all your mates," added Deborah. "He said they are all in the great cutting room in the sky – well, that's what he called it.

"He was very wary that one day he would be joining those people but he didn't think it was going to happen now."

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays at 8.30am.

Roger Moore: A Bientot... by Roger Moore, from Michael O'Mara Books, is available now for £12.99.
