Bong And On: Church Bells At St George The Martyr In London Ring Nonstop For 24 Hours

Officials at a church in south London have apologised after a technical fault meant its bells were ringing nonstop for more than a day.

The bells at St George the Martyr on Borough High Street in Southwark chimed away for more than 24 hours, leaving passers-by and church staff with ringing in their ears.

It is believed the bells started ringing some time on Monday morning and kept going until 12.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The church apologised profusely for the inconvenience on Twitter and by posting a note on its doors.

The note read: “We are sorry that the bells of this church have been sounding since yesterday.

“We have been contacting contractors to get this fixed as soon as possible.

“We understand the disturbance it has caused and appreciate your patience with this.”
