Bonnie Tyler totally eclipses Despacito to hit number one on iTunes in US

Bonnie Tyler's 1983 hit Total Eclipse Of The Heart has made a surprising climb to the top of the iTunes chart in the US.

The song became the unofficial soundtrack of Monday's total solar eclipse after Tyler was invited to sing on board a cruise ship during the natural phenomenon.

Taken from Tyler's 1982 album Faster Than the Speed of Night, it has, for the time being at least, knocked off the song crowned the official sound of the summer from the number one spot.

Latin reggaeton hit Despacito by Luis Fonsi - which has broken records for its time spent at number one in different countries and is now the most streamed song ever, surpassing Justin Bieber's Sorry with more than 5 billion streams across platforms - has been bumped down to number two by Bonnie.

Calvin Harris' Feels, featuring Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams, had already knocked off Despacito in the UK charts last week.

Total Eclipse Of The Heart is priced at £1 and is now ahead of songs such as Liam Payne's Strip That Down and Justin Bieber's 2U.

During the eclipse, Tyler was joined by Joe Jonas' band DNCE on stage to perform her famous hit.

The track was shortened to two minutes and 40 seconds - the exact length of the eclipse.
