Yahoo News New book says Prince Harry came close to death in army
A new book has claimed Prince Harry was 'inches' away from a potentially fatal situation while serving with the British army in Afghanistan in 2007.
An upcoming biography on the Prince by the Mail on Sunday's royal reporter Katie Nicholl looks into the life of the soon-to-be married Prince.
One of the parts of the book focuses on Harry's time serving in the British Army, where he was first deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 for 10 weeks. Much of the British press knew Harry was at the time, but agreed not to publish any information on the Prince's whereabouts until he returned to the UK.

Since then, Harry has spoken about his time on the frontline on several occasions, but now one of his fellow soldiers in the army told the writer the extent of just how dangerous his time out there was.
Captain Dickon Leigh-Wood told the writer they were all travelling in vehicles when they almost drove over an IED bomb.
"One of the vehicles in the column suddenly noticed something flick underneath the tank in front and everyone was ordered to stop," he said."'You automatically think, 'This is gonna go off. This is it.'"
"The previous vehicles, including Harry's, had missed the pressure plate of an IED by about six inches. If any of us had gone over it, it would have been game over."
The writer also says Harry and his fellow soldiers 'were frequently shot at' while travelling in tanks.
"We were shot at pretty much every day and we got in a proper scrap once a week, but he [Harry] dealt with it and I think that's what made him such a good officer," Leigh-Wood said.

The captain also described the Prince as a 'ballsy character' and said he 'never saw Harry look frightened'.
While Prince Harry certainly knows how to defend himself and those around him thanks to his army training, his fiancée Meghan Markle has reportedly undergone SAS training – including a 'kidnap and rescue' situation – in preparation for her becoming a full-time royal.
Here's to one royal couple you do not want to mess with. Kensington Palace declined to comment.
