Bookies have slashed the odds on Theresa May being ousted as Prime Minister by Christmas – with one even offering odds she will be gone by Monday.

The odds on her leaving the PM role have been cut following a disastrous party conference speech, which made headlines for all the wrong reasons after a protester stormed the stage and a coughing fit left Mrs May unable to speak.

Both Paddy Power and William Hill have reduced the odds of her still being in Number 10 by 2018, with William Hill offering odds of 10/1 that she’ll be forced out over the weekend.

This follows a tough period for Mrs May.

Her conference speech – intended to re-establish her authority as head of the party after weeks of turmoil – was undermined by prankster Simon Brodkin handing her a P45.

Despite handling the setback cooly, she was then derailed by an excruciating cough throughout the rest of her speech.

Towards the end, the set behind her even began to fall apart.

A YouGov poll on Thursday found the speech was overwhelmingly disliked, with 49% saying that it had gone ‘badly’.

And now the bookies think this could be the beginning of the end.

Following the speech, Paddy Power cut the odds of her leaving office this month from 5/1 to 2/1, while the odds of her departing by the end of the year are 6/4, down from 5/2.

“The odds of Theresa May leaving her role have been dropping quicker than those letters on the wall at the Tory Conference,” a Paddy Power spokesperson told Yahoo News UK.

“We’ve acted because the pundits are lumping on a May Day call from Downing Street – and, also, we did watch the Conservative Party Conference.”

It has only made them more certain that she will not be PM by the end of this parliament, with current odds at 1/10.

Adding to Mrs May’s extensive list of woes, former party chairman Grant Shapps declared today he had a list of 30 MPs who wanted the PM to go.

This follows fellow former minister Ed Vaizey reportedly saying ‘quite a few’ MPs in the party thought Mrs May should resign.

Despite receiving backing from colleagues including Michael Gove, these new revelations have only reduced the odds of her survival.

“At the start of her speech at the Tory Party Conference, the PM was 5/2 to go this year however, there now seems to be a mutiny brewing.” spokesperson Joe Crilly told Yahoo News UK.

They now have the chances of the PM being gone by the end of the year at 5/4.
