Bootle Strand cordoned off after fire breaks out at block of flats
A cordon was put in place near to Bootle Strand shopping centre this evening. Five fire engines surrounded a block of flats on Washington Parade in Bootle on Wednesday (August 28).
An unmarked police car was also seen at the scene. A cordon was in place on Washington Parade, outside Strand House and a section of Bootle Strand shopping centre.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called at 9.52pm and arrived on scene five minutes later. On arrival firefighters found a fire in a flat on the 15th floor.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is currently in attendance at an incident at Washington Parade, Bootle. Crews were alerted at 21.52 and on scene at 21.57. Four fire engines and an aerial appliance attended.
"On arrival crews found a flat with a fire on the fifteenth floor. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and used one main jet hose to extinguish the fire.
"Breathing apparatus is no longer being used and crews remain on scene to ventilate the property. The incident is being scaled down and the aerial appliance has been released from the scene."
