Yahoo News Boots launches new in-store beauty recycling scheme and you can earn up to 500 Advantage Card points a day
In partnership with beauty brand No.7, high street store Boots has just announced an exciting recycling scheme that will make disposing of hard-to-recycle beauty and health products easier than ever before!
The new scheme encourages customers to bring their empties into stores, even if they didn't purchase the product from Boots.
In return, customers will be awarded 500 Boots Advantage Card Points for every five products they recycle. However, it's worth noting Advantage Card Points will be capped at 500 per day, even if you return more than five empties.
What's more, the retailer will be the first to implement Scan2Recycle technology on the high street, which will allow customers to track how much packaging they have recycled.
All you'll have to do is scan your empty products on your mobile phone, via the Boots Scan2Recycle website which launches on 24 September, and take them to a recycling point at any participating Boots store (stores to be announced).
Your empty beauty buys will then be sent to the brand's recycling partner, ReWorked, where they will be turned into packaging for new products.
Speaking about the new scheme, Joanna Rogers, Trading Director and VP of Beauty at Boots said: "To help our customers shop and consume more sustainably, we’re excited to launch the most inclusive recycling scheme on the market. Customers will be able to recycle even the most difficult health, beauty and wellness empties, from old mascaras and empty toothpaste tubes to finished lipsticks and empty vitamin pots. Our customers can then feel even better about treating themselves with their Boots Advantage Card points."
Over 25 Boots stores in the UK will launch the initiative on Thursday 24 September, with dedicated recycling bins in stores.
For health and safety reason, there are some empties that can not be recycled. These include aerosol cans, perfume bottles, nail polish bottles and razor blades.
This isn't the first initiative Boots has launched to encourage customers to shop sustainably. In 2018, Boots signed up to the UK Plastics Pact, which encourages businesses around the UK to work collaboratively to transform the use of plastic packaging by 2025.
Last year, Boots was also the first health and beauty retailer in the UK to replace plastic bags with unbleached, brown paper carrier bags.
