Ukrainian border guards have detained a group of 40 individuals attempting to illegally cross the border with Hungary, the State Border Guard Service reported on Feb. 8.
According to the message, officers stopped two minibuses near the border with Hungary. The vehicles were carrying 38 people, not including the drivers themselves. Military-aged male Ukrainian citizens are prohibited from leaving the country under martial law.
“This is the largest group of border violators detained during the full-scale [Russian] invasion,” the report said.
“The group included men from 11 Ukrainian oblasts.”
The organizers of this illegal scheme were planning to charge their “clients” between $4,500 and $8,500 for the crossing.
The investigation into the details of the scheme is ongoing, border officials added.
