The name Nicholas was selected in honour of two doctors, Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart, who saved the prime minister’s life when he was battling the coronavirus in hospital last month.

Symonds also shared her arrived at 9am on 29 April and praised the maternity team at University College Hospital in London where she gave birth.

A flurry of bets placed Wilfred as the frontrunner just hours within hours of the little boy’s arrival.

Following the birth, a spokeswoman for the prime minister and his partner said both mother and baby were “doing very well”.

“The prime minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning. Both mother and baby are doing very well,” the spokeswoman said at the time.

“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”

It is understood the prime minister was present throughout the birth.

While there has been no confirmation the couple’s child arrived ahead of his due date, the pair announced in March that Symonds was due in “early summer”, a season that begins on 20 June in the UK.

No other birth details, including the baby’s weight, have been shared.

The couple’s baby is Johnson’s sixth child. Johnson has four children with his second wife, lawyer Marina Wheeler – Theodore, Cassia, Milo and Lara. The couple’s marriage ended in September 2018 after 25 years together.

In 2013, the Appeal Court ruled that the public had a right to know that Johnson had fathered a daughter during an adulterous liaison while mayor of London in 2009.
