Boris Johnson and his girlfriend are jetting off to the private Caribbean island of Mustique to spend new year with the Von Bismarck family.

The prime minister and Carrie Symonds are flying to the exclusive island for some winter sun after their first Christmas in Downing Street, The Times reported.

According to the newspaper, the couple will be staying with the Von Bismarck family – descended from the first German chancellor Otto Von Bismarck – in the new year.

It’s also popular with the Royal Family. Princess Margaret was gifted land on the island as a wedding present and was famously photographed there in 1976 with Roddy Llewellyn while still married to Lord Snowden, causing a scandal.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have also previously holidayed on the island, reportedly staying in a £27,000-a-week villa.

According to The Times, it is expected that Mr Johnson will pay for the flight himself.

His winter break contrasts with his predecessors Theresa May and David Cameron, who opted for more low-key holidays. Mrs May chose walking breaks in Wales, while Mr Cameron opted to holiday holiday in Cornwall.
