Boris Johnson Given The Finger By Grumpy Cyclist As He Launches Cycle Superhighway

Boris Johnson is well documented for his love of cycling - but it seems that the cyclists definitely don’t love him.

That was the case this morning, after a grumpy cyclist was seen giving the finger to the Mayor of London as he launched the capital’s first fully segregated cycle highway.

In the picture, Mr Johnson can be seen offering a cheery wave - but the cyclist on the other side of the road couldn’t be less forthcoming.

The awkward encounter came as the Mayor hailed the new highway as ‘fantastic’ - and claimed that it would be instrumental in curbing the number of cyclists killed on London’s roads.

‘The people I met on the cycleway seemed to love it’, the Mayor said.

‘This is probably, in a hotly contested field, one of the most difficult things we have had to do. It has caused an awful lot of aggro, particularly with senior colleagues in parliament who like to travel around in cars.

‘It looks beautiful and it is a smooth as a piece of virgin tarmac laid by TfL - and you can not get any smoother than that.’

The cycle highway, which opened three weeks ago, has proved highly popular with cyclists - with up to 750 using the route at peak times.
