Boris Johnson and Hugh Jackman have something in common: their tights

Boris Johnson has revealed that he has a pair of the same running tights as actor Hugh Jackman on a diplomatic trip to Australia.

The Foreign Secretary is rarely seen in specialist running gear, as he tends to prefer garish combinations of old T-shirts and patterned shorts.

However, he may cut a more chic figure as he pounds the tarmac from now on - as he has been gifted a pair of the same running tights as Mr Jackman.

Mr Johnson thanked his counterpart Julie Bishop for giving him the present.

He said: "Somebody brought you news I had been out jogging over the last couple of mornings in your wonderful Botanic Gardens in Sydney and you were kind enough just now to give me a very beautiful pair of compression tights — as worn by Hugh Jackman, I'm given to understand.

"So thank you, Julie."

He also said he wants to "welcome talented Australians" to the UK post-Brexit.

Mr Johnson told the audience any deal would include an "open and generous" visa regime for Australians looking to travel to the U.K.

"What we will be able to do once we take back control of our immigration arrangements is to have a system that is fair," he said. "We want to welcome talented Australians."
