A football fan has been banned from games after he punched a man at The Riverside Stadium.

Boosbeck's Jamie Dewing attended the Middlesbrough FC game against Leeds United, on Monday, April 22, where he assaulted another match-goer. The Wharton Place defendant punched a man leaving him with minor injuries.

Dewing was arrested at the scene by officers and later charged with a public order offence. On Wednesday, November 27, at Teesside Magistrates' Court, Dewing was handed a four-year football banning order, and fined £833.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £333 and court costs of £85. The banning order now means that Dewing cannot attend any football games in the United Kingdom for the next four years.

PC Chris Hilton, Cleveland Police dedicated football officer, said: “Working closely with Middlesbrough Football Club, we will continue to try to keep people as safe as we can from violence and disorder of any kind at football matches. Wherever possible we will look to secure football banning orders and convictions for those who behave in this manner.”

It's not the first time Dewing has appeared in court, in 2022, the digger driver admitted possessing cocaine after he was "wrongly arrested" outside the Riverside Stadium. Dewing was found with the class A drug in his red and white Middlesbrough wallet on the day Boro took on Derby County.

Teesside Magistrates' Court heard how there had been a disturbance at a nearby roundabout near The Leeway on February 12. At the time, Heather Willis, prosecuting, said the 35-year-old had been arrested for a separate matter and was standing next to a lamppost surrounded by police dogs.

She told the court how he was searched by police and a grip seal bag containing white powder, found inside his wallet, was confirmed to be cocaine.

The prosecutor said: "Mr Dewing was interviewed for this. He said he didn't know where it came from. It must have been in his wallet for ages. When asked it was cocaine he said 'I don't know'."

Dewing pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug of class A. The defendant was fined £300, ordered to pay surcharge of £34 and £85 court costs.
