Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker didn’t play in their 123-119 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night at TD Garden while dealing with a sore left knee.

Walker informed the team about the issue on Friday night, and quickly underwent an MRI.

That test, however, came back clean — a welcome sign for coach Brad Stevens

“Kemba got ahold of our doctors last night and said he had some knee soreness,” Stevens said before the game, via ESPN. “[He] went and got an MRI today, [and it] didn’t show anything structurally wrong, but he’s very sore.”

Walker has averaged 22.1 points, 4.9 assists and four rebounds so far this season in Boston, his first with the team after spending his first eight years in the league in Charlotte.

The 29-year-old hasn’t missed much time in the past four years, either.

Walker played in every game last season with the Hornets, and has missed only six games dating back to the 2015-16 season.

He’s nearly hit that mark already this year in Boston, though, missing three games while dealing with the flu and another with a minor neck injury. Saturday’s game was the fifth he’s missed this season.

While Walker wasn’t feeling great on Saturday, Stevens didn’t think that his point guard would be sidelined for long.

“I haven’t talked to him enough to know,” Stevens said, via ESPN. “Once they ruled him out for tonight, [I] had to think about how to get ready for tonight.

“I’m always concerned when someone’s not feeling right, but I don’t get the impression that it’s a long-term thing.”
