Bouncing Baby Antelope Makes Energetic Debut at Nashville Zoo

The Nashville Zoo announced that its seven-week-old male bontebok antelope calf made his public debut in the mixed-species Africa Field habitat, in a statement released on June 29.

The calf, named Rhoden, was born on May 6 and had been living off-exhibit with his mom, Eclair, the Nashville Zoo said. The zoo now has four bontebok in their care, including the new calf, it said.

Video released by the Nashville Zoo shows Rhoden leaping and bounding around his new home.

Nashville Zoo Lead Hoofstock Keeper Nikole Edmunds said, “Eclair gave birth naturally without assistance and she is doing great as a first-time mom taking care of her calf.” This is the second successful bontebok birth at the Nashville Zoo since 2017, the zoo said.
