Bournemouth artist shares painting of iconic bridge in the town
AN aspiring artist from Bournemouth has shared her painting of an iconic Bournemouth bridge.
Samantha Ngwenya spent hours by an easel on the Wessex Way bridge so that she could paint the illuminated ‘Welcome to Bournemouth’ sign.
It is one of many Bournemouth related paintings by the 27-year-old, many of which have been plein air.
Samantha said: “I’ve been doing a few paintings outside. That one of the bridge was from last summer.
“I think I paint what I’d like to see, and what my friends would like to see. When we talk about art, the conversation is mostly based around how they don’t understand it.
“I want to paint things that can be understood, and things that we know.”
But Samantha’s work is not limited to artwork of the coastal town, and her Instagram page boasts plenty of other places and objects put to canvas.
She said: “My style is quite melancholic. It touches on nostalgia.
It’s very true to what we see as opposed to what you might see in modern night.
My work is mainly for a common person to understand. I didn’t grow up in the most artistic environment as such, but I’ve been fascinated by skill and technique. I guess that’s why I paint the way I do.”
Samantha told the Daily Echo she is currently working on a new exciting series which will be showcased in her first ever solo exhibition.
