Boy George has revealed that back in his Culture Club days he would receive threatening letters – to the point that he wore a bulletproof vest.

During a recent appearance on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, he recalled one of his gigs in Louisiana during a US tour in the 1980s...

"It was Halloween, and people called up and said they were gonna shoot me.

"I was thinking, 'I can't cancel the gig so I'd better wear a bulletproof vest'."

He also told Piers about the countries he was banned from entering, and revealed that many of his TV appearances were restricted.

"People didn't want to interview me. They didn't want to have me on kids' shows – people reacted not so well to us being on Top Of The Pops.'

When Piers asked if the negative reactions were to do with Boy George's sexuality or appearance, he simply replied: "I think take your pick really."

Meanwhile, Boy George is returning to The Voice - but this time in Australia, as confirmed by Nine Network, which airs the show.

"I am super excited to be doing The Voice in Australia because I know they can take a bit of banter and I won't be holding back," he said.

"The UK season was a warm-up and I am ready to sprinkle some pop-tastic glitter dust all over the show."
