The boy - of unknown age - attended the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment and was later discharged.
But the matter was not reported to police until Wednesday (September 4), prompting further investigation.
Their enquiries suggest the occupants of the car were male and that they were wearing purple tops.
The boy was in the company of a young female at the time, but she was not involved in the incident.
There are believed to be several members of the public who witnessed the incident, and cops are asking them to come forward.
